BSA Troop 80 Behavior Policy
(2008 – 2009)
In order to provide an atmosphere where Scouts can learn and enjoy themselves, it has become necessary to provide the following guidelines for the boys. The most important thing is that the boys will be responsible for their own behavior rather than the adult leaders having to repeatedly correct them. We believe this will result in more controlled meeting and activities with increased learning and fun for all concerned. After reading these policies, please provide the signatures indicated to affirm your understanding and support of these policies. Also, if you have any concerns or comments, please do not hesitate to discuss them with Mr. Ross.
If a Scout aids in, or participates in, a behavior that is disruptive, or potentially disruptive, dangerous, against Troop 80 policy, or the policies set forth by the Boy Scouts of America, the Scout will be subject to the following sanctions:
1. If a Scout is officially spoken to about his behavior by the Scoutmaster, Asst. Scoutmaster, Jr. Asst. Scoutmaster or Senior Patrol Leader during a meeting, campout or some other Troop activity, he will be removed from the group and provided 5 minutes of quality ‘thinking’ time to decide how he should and hopefully will act upon returning to the group for the particular activity. If this corrective action must be taken twice during the same meeting, campout, etc. (or if this kind of behavior repeats itself over consecutive activities), that Scout will not be allowed to participate in the next activity of the Troop (be it a meeting, campout etc.)
This behavior includes, but is not limited to: pushing or shoving; loud, boisterous or indecent language or conduct; or general disruptive behavior during any meeting or activity, especially when there are ‘Signs Up!’
2. If, due to his behavior, a Scout misses three meetings or activities, he will present himself to the Senior Leadership consisting of the Senior Patrol Leader, Asst. SPL’s and one or more Asst. Scoutmasters (and/or Scoutmaster) to answer whether he is serious about continuing with Scouting program in Troop 80.
3. If the Scout’s behavior does not improve after a situation as described in #2 above, he will be asked to present himself with his parent(s) before the Adult Leadership to determine his continued participation with Troop 80.
4. If, during any Scouting activity, a Scout participates in, or aids in, any dangerous or illegal behavior, such as wandering away from the group or area alone, willfully damaging or trying to damage personal or Troop equipment, stealing, causing harm or potential harm to any person, that Scout will be immediately separated from the group and his parent(s) will be called to come and take him home. Subsequently, the Scout will be required to present himself with his parent(s) before the Adult Leadership to discuss his continued participation with Troop 80.
Our aim is to provide an atmosphere where the boys can learn the ways of Boy Scouting, and to provide a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone involved that will last a lifetime. We thank everyone, in advance, for their understanding and cooperation towards this goal.
