Religious Emblems Programs

"A Scout is Reverent." All Scouts show this by being faithbul in their duty to God. Some go further and give special service. This may qualify them for a religious emblem. Such an emblem is not a Scouting Award. It is conferred on a Scout by his religious leader. Each faith has its own requirments for earning its emblem.

Notre Dame de Lourdes Church will be offering programs to help guide Scouts to qualify for the following emblems:

Ad Altare Dei (Altar of God)

The Ad Altare Dei religious emblem is a sacramental based program designed for the 12-13 year old Catholic Scout to help him develop a Christian way of life, and help him fully live the Scout Oath and Law.

A boy must be a registered Scout, active in the Troop for 6 months, and have completed the 6th grade before beginning the program. The average time for completion is 3-6 months.

The Parvuli Dei (Children of God)

A boy must be a registered Scout and completed the 2nd grade before starting the Parvuli Dei program. The average time for completion is 3-6 months.

The purpose of the emblem is to help young boys to discover the presence of God in their daily lives as members of their family and parish. It is also used to develop a positive self-image through the contributions that they can make to the group or community.

Light of Christ

This program is for boys who are registered as Tiger Cubs or Wolf Cub Scouts. It must be completed before starting the 3rd grade. The average time for completion is 3-6 months.

The purpose of the Light of Christ is to help boys develop a personal relationship with Jesus so they will come to see Him as a real person and their friend.

Light is Life

The Light is Life program was designed for Scouts of the Eastern Catholic Churches. A boy must be a registered Scout and be active for one year in Scouting before receiving the Light is Life emblem. Approximate time for completion is 12 months.

Pope Pius XII

The Pope Pius XII program was designed for any registered youth member of the Boy Scouts of America of the Catholic faith who has started ninth grade. It is recommended (not required) that Boy Scouts previously have earned the Ad Altare Dei emblem before beginning work on the Pope Pius XII.

The Pope Pius XII religious emblem program deals with church-related ministries and vocations. These are the ways baptized persons commit themselves to serve humanity in obedience to God's call within our Catholic Church, a Christian community of faith.

Counselors

The Notre Dame de Lourdes Religious Emblem counselors are members of the Catholic Committee on Scouting, and trained through the Archdiocese of Boston to provide the above programs.

Emblems of Other Faiths

Counselors for the religious emblems of faiths other than Catholic will be arranged through local houses of worship as requested. Please contact Michael McCluskey, Jr, Scoutmaster, for further information.
