Events of InterestAltar Servers Awarded
Oct 10, 1999 This week I would like to take a moment to salute our devoted corps of altar servers. Their talent and dedication in service to the parish is extraordinary. This past week several of our high school aged servers were recognized for their ongoing dedication and ministry on behalf of the parish. Heather Begen, Stephanie Fontanez, Gerald Rudy, Melissa King and Christine Golas were recipients of the Serra Awards. These awards, promoted by Serra International a group dedicated "to further Catholicism by encouraging its members, in fellowship, through education, to fulfill their Christian vocations to service", were awarded in recognition of these five young people of our parish. Please join me in congratulating our recipients. |

Weekly BullitenFrom Father Jim: This Sunday the parish is celebrating the sacrament of Initiation for four new members of the family of God. The Baptism preparation team of the parish is missioned with the challenge of preparing parents and godparents for the role of spiritual mentors for their children and godchildren. This dedicated group of parishioners plans the experiences that unfold over a three-week period that will help parents and godparents to explore the depths of their own faith and to plumb the richness of their experience of God in ways that will help them to become that much better in living the example of the Christian life. The Baptism team does a wonderful job. Yet, for the work of the team to continue it has to be supported by the members of this worshipping community. The follow-up that is needed with the families who have presented their children for Baptism has to come from a warm, welcoming, nourishing community. This community is one that physically and spiritually reaches out to families who may be struggling with questions on how to live the Christian life today. I am counting on you to continue your conscious decisions to be the supportive and welcoming community that I have experienced. I am hoping that you would be willing to help with the follow-up nurturance of the spiritual and community life that families long for. If you want to help in this, please talk to me, give me a call, stop me on the street but please let me know what you want to do and I promise, I will help you find a way to do it.

Parish Mission: Notre Dame de Lourdes is a small inner city Catholic parish. Called by our Baptism to follow Christ, nourished by the Eucharist in our parish, and missioned by God's Word, we seek to give witness to God's love and fidelity by building a welcoming community that reaches out in service to all, especially the poor and marginalized. |
