Youth Educational Events
We recognize the importance of youth
Young people will provide leadership for our new century, and
are our hope for the future. They also learn best when there is a large
"hands-on" component to what they do. We also recognize that their
activities must be fun!
So we at MV2050 have teamed up with various youth agencies in
greater Lowell—the ADAM Project (Big Brother Big Sister), River Ambassadors,
the Streetworker Program, and the YWCA.
Our previous activities have included:
- A Council of All Beings, 12/27/97.
The Council is an innovative way of
helping people of all ages be aware of connections between different living
beings, and of the emotional and spiritual aspects of ecosystems. We did a
nature walk, then made masks representing birds, trees etc. which we put on to
play roles at the Council’s "meeting." For a full report click

- Participation in the Acre Clean-up Day, 5/16/98.
This clean-up is held
every year in the Acre section of Lowell, and young people connected to the Acre
Youth Center (YWCA) helped plant a community garden, removed graffiti, and
discussed the significance of their work. For a full report click here.
- An educational canoe trip on the Squanacook River, 6/16/98.
On this
trip, youths learned how to identify various kinds of river insects and connect
their presence to different levels of pollution. For a full report click here.
- A weekend camping trip in Vermont, 6/24/98-6/26/98.
On this weekend a
variety of educational events were planned, but most of them could not be held
because of an exceptionally severe rainstorm at the campsite; however the trip
provided an excellent education in survival. For a full report click here.
