Mission Statement for EMS
All members are trained to the Massachusetts first responder level to
provide emergency care to the citizens, employees and tourists in the City
of Lowell. The fire department responds to approximately 5,500 calls for
medical help yearly.
The goal is to provide timely emergency medical care to correct life
threatening problems, limit the severity, and reduce rehabilitation time
so the person is back to a normal life style as soon as possible. We are
also striving to make Lowell the safest place to have a medical problem
in the Merrimack Valley.
To accomplish this goal, training is ongoing for CPR, Emergency Care,
Semi-automatic Defibrillation and Rescue Techniques. Most of this training
is scheduled on a quarterly basis for all members.
One Hundred Ten Members of the department have taken their first responder
level of training to the Emergency Medical Technician level. Most of these
members have taken advantage of a department sponsored EMT course held
at the Oakland Training Center. The course is conducted two mornings a
week for four months.
