Born
in Lowell, Massachusetts, to a French Canadian-American, Catholic
family, Jack Kerouac remains one of America’s most influential
and inspirational writers. On the Road, published in
1957, brought him immediate fame, and the media proclaimed
Kerouac “the voice of the Beat Generation.” He became a symbol
of American restlessness and the promise of the open road.
But Kerouac’s personal journey was a serious pursuit of an
aesthetic life equal to his mystical visions of America’s
people and places.
