Return to People.
Panagiotis C. Laganas was among
the
first Greek settlers who purchased land to launch a farming industry in
Dracut, Massachusetts. He was a farmer and a historian who cultivated many
crops; his specialty, “zucchini.” This produce had its special flavor because
of the origin of the seeds, which he brought from Greece. As a great employer,
he hired many who helped to farm many acres of land
When the farm reached its peak, his three sons, Costas, Christos, and George, left the farmland for the manufacturing shoe industry where they established shoe factories in Lowell, Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire thus providing employment for many skilled workers.
