1900 The Lowell Sunday Telegram
The Greeks of this city have for some time have held Olympian games on Sunday in
the woods in Pawtucketville near the Moody street bridge. In a quiet manner they
have gathered on land owned by the Locks and Canals Corporation on Sunday and
there tried for supremacy in stone throwing, running, etc. On chilly days they
have fires made from wood cut on the spot and nearly a hundred trees have been
burned up to keep the Greeks warm.
