What a nice surprise finding this web site. We were looking for an information source when we had our Gineris (Kankakee, Ill branch) family reunion in 1997. My grandfather, Louie Gineris, from Langathia, Greece, immigrated to Lowell and worked in the mills before going west to Chicago Heights, Il. Now maybe we can find out more information, if not about him then about the times in which he lived. Thank you for working so hard to put this web site together. Evanthia Nicolou, St. Louis, Mo.

How wonderful that you have such an excellent organization where we, decedents of so many Greeks that came to America, can feel even closer to our own country but our father's country as well. Anthony T. Rallis

Well done, the amount of knowledge available is truly impressive. It made me feel somewhat home sick and curious of the history of the Hellenic people in America. I want to visit MA now! Wish you the best for the future

Have been living in Lowell from 1970 to 1987, I congratulate you from your efforts to promote Hellenic heritage in America. I am residing back in Greece now and my roots are always through Lowell having relatives still there and my grandparents pass through the mill city from 1890 to 1950.

Good web site! I am Greek Orthodox and live in St.Louis. I hope the Red Sox or Cubs go to the World Series if the Cards can't go! I wish that the plight of the ecumenical patriarchate would be known in America. We seldem hear about the Turkish massacare oof teh Armenians or of the Smynra Haulacost or the MAn made famin that Stralin created in 1932-33. Hi to Polly Baldwin of St.Louis my favorite landscape architect and Stan Paden wherever you are! sincerely, John M. Cloens, St.Louis,MO.

This is a wonderful and informative website. My mother, Eleni Rodopoulos, grew up in Lowell. She will be celebrating her 80th birthday in June. She is a graduate of The Bartlett Junior High School, Class of 1939. She is one of the members of the 1940's singing trio, "The Rodis Sister." who got their start in Lowell. I know that she would love to hear from any of her friends. She can be contacted at ppatrick@bestweb.net. Thanks, and keep up the great work!

Hi- I found this site to be very informative and I am hoping that someone could help me. I am a student at UML and I have an oral history project to do for my history class. I was hoping to find a Greek immigrant(before the 1980's) that I could interview for my project. I would really appreciate some direction on this, even if it is pointing me somewhere else. Please send me an email at RavenBry@aol.com if you know of anyone. THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE! -Bryan Raven

I think this site is wonderful and long overdue. My grandparents were Greek immigrants and resided on Market Street where they raised their five children. You have brought back so many marvelous memories . Keep up the good work and let me know how I can contribute. HAPPY NEW YEAR. B. Psoinos

Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Nikolaos Pasamihalis, President of Atheras Chapter 12 of the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood of America "Icaros". We are a fraternal organization of Greeks from the island of Ikaria,Greece. The Brotherhood has 24 Chapters located in many cities across the US and Canada.

In 2003, our organization will celebrate its 100th Anniversary Year. To commemorate the event, we are preparing a book which will explore the growth of our organization as well as the history of Ikarians in North America.

I recently had the opportunity to tour the web site of The Lowell Hellenic Heritage Association and was very impressed. You have done a wonderful job preserving the story of the Greek Community of Lowell.

I would ask if anyone has identified any information on Ikarians who immigrated to Massachusetts or to other New England states? We have not been able to track down any information in this area of the US. We would be appreciative of any guidance or suggestions anyone may be able to give us.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Nikolaos J. Pasamihalis

What a wonderful website! I am researching my family history and found this site to be interesting. I love the pictures. My great-grandfather came to Lowell in 1898 from Arcadia Karetina and worked in the factories for a few years before moving to Gloucester. I am told that there is a plack with his name on it at the Tsongas Industrial Center. I am looking forward to visitng in person soon. Keep up the excellent work. Sincerely,

Efi Polisson

Congratulations on this wonderful set of web-pages on the Greek experience in Lowell. You have managed to bring alive the rich history of this community in a way that makes it relevant to the broader Greek American and to the American ethnic experience writ large. You are showing other ethnic communities how one can celebrate and honor one's heritage and local roots while avoiding chest-thumping nationalism or maudlin nostalgia.
