Community
Community life by mid-century had expanded beyond the Acre. People gathered for Name Days and birthdays and at backyard parties. The monthly social calendar featured dances, picnics, and church events. Friends met friends at the Dutch Tea Room, McCord’s, and the Epicure or went out to Skip’s, the Speare House, Blue Moon, and Pete’s. These years marked the heyday for AHEPA, GAPA, Daughters of Penelope, Sons of Pericles, and Maids of Athena. More and more, people ventured to attractions outside Lowell.
