George Gialousis George Gialousis emigrated from the city of Rhodes, Greece, to Lowell, Massachusetts in 1912. He had no relatives in Lowell, and initially boarded at the French-Canadian boardinghouse of Francois and Aurelie St. Onge. Francois and Aurelie had several convent-schooled daughters. George Gialousis fell in love with one of them, Emma. It was necessary for George and Emma to elope in order to be married, and they did elope in 1915. In 1924, George and Emma, along with their two children, moved into the Pawtucketville home of Aurelie St. Onge. He was one of the first Greeks to move into this predominately French and Irish neighborhood of Lowell. George opened the Perfection Dye and Cleansing Shop on Mammoth Road in Pawtucketville in 1924. He was a custom tailor and made men's suits and topcoats, pressing them by hand with a twenty-pound, gas-fired steam iron. In 1933, George Gialousis had to move his shop because the building in which it was located was purchased by a large grocery store. His new shop was relocated in the family home on Sixth Avenue in Pawtucketville and renamed The Pawtucket Cleaners.
