Chad Montrie
   
 

Chad Montrie was born in Toledo, Ohio, and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. He did his graduate work at Ohio State University. He is now an assistant professor of history at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.  His teaching and research interests include U.S. social, labor, and environmental history. 

In addition to his essay "Within the Circuit of This Plodding Life," the editors have included a link to Chad Montrie’s article “’I Think Less of the Factory, Than of My Native Dell’: Labor, Nature, and the Lowell 'Mill Girls,” which appeared in Environmental History, vol. 9, no. 2 (2004).
