Alentour Magazine

Alentour: A National Magazine of New Poetry was published in Lowell, Massachusetts, from 1935 to 1943. The Alentour story is the story of countless “little magazines” that have been the proving ground for writers. While journalists are fond of saying that newspapers are the first draft of history, it is fair to say that “small press” books and independent magazines filled with poetry, fiction and essays carry the first draft of the world’s literature. Until Paul Marion's article "Alentour: One of the Lost 'Little Magazines' (1935 - 1943)" was published in the Massachusetts Review in 2004, the Alentour story was a missing link in Lowell’s cultural history.
