With this issue of The Bridge Review we inaugurate a feature that will
be a platform for scholars to present research and document activity
related to sustainable regional development. In addition to providing
high quality, affordable higher education, UMass Lowell is charged by
the state to support sustainable regional economic and social
development. The Lowell campus is recognized as a center for research
on this topic. Papers included in the Ideas and Action section will
explore both theory and practice, ranging across fields of study and
mingling disciplines.
These first papers are drawn from a recent conference sponsored by the
U Mass Lowell Committee for Industrial Theory and Assessment (CITA).
This faculty-led committee provides seed funding for certain research
and coordinates conference planning.
