Writer
and artist Berna J. Finley of Chelmsford passed away in April 2001.
She was 69 years old. She was a writer, photographer, painter, and
maker of handmade books.
The Colorado
native was a graduate of the University of Colorado and Northeastern
University. A long-time school guidance counselor, she developed
a second career as a photojournalist and visual artist whose work
was exhibited widely. She was a regular contributor to the Chelmsford
Independent newspaper and a member of the local PEN Women's
writers group.
"I was
always in awe of her talents as a writer, photographer, educator,
artist, and athlete, but what inspired me most was her zest for
life and generosity of spirit," her friend JackieYoung told
the Lowell Sun. "She was always able to tell a story
in a picture," said [her friend] Kathleen Veth. "It impressed
the writer in me."
