The Learning in Retirement Association (L.I.R.A.) of the University
of Massachusetts Lowell is a lifelong learning organization. Since
1992, L.I.R.A. has sponsored a series of poetry workshops. In 1997,
the workshop members wrote poems in response to their experiences
at the West Campus of the University. The objective was to create
a "poetry map" of the West Campus as a cultural link to
Lowell's new Flowering City Project. Workshop members used poetry
as a tool for exploring the nature of their immediate environment.
The editors of the Bridge Review are grateful to the L.I.R.A.
authors and Dr. Mark Levine of the University of Massachusetts Lowell
Office of Community Service for their contributions, support, and
encouragement.
