THE BELVIDERE NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

"A nicer place to live"

Belvidere is a neighborhood of Lowell, Massachusetts bounded by the Merrimack and Concord Rivers to the North and West, by Boylston and Commercial Streets to the South and by the Tewksbury/ Lowell town line to the East (See map below).

The Belvidere Neighborhood Association (BNA) was founded three years ago and has approximately 200 paid members. Its purpose is to

  • keep residents informed of actions affecting the area;
  • influence the outcome of these activities in a positive, non-confrontational way; and
  • increase awareness of and appreciation for Belvidere's environmental resources.

The current Board of Directors is:

Ann Desmarais, Secretary

Working in partnership with the City government, police, local businesses and other neighborhood groups, the BNA has sponsored and facilitated a number of projects, including

  • restoration of the Shedd Park field house, tennis courts and basketball courts;
  • establishment of the Belvidere precinct police station;
  • publication of a 3,000+ circulation monthly newsletter that is delivered to over 2,600 households;
  • "Pops Goes the Easel", an outdoor art festival and concert at Rogers Fort Hill Park;
  • open meetings to discuss public and private development plans; and
  • the SuitAbility clothing drive.

The BNA Beautification Committee is actively engaged in the rejuvenation of Rogers Fort Hill Park and maintains plantings at Fort Hill, Shedd Park and the Oaklands Fire Station.
